Spring Social

Flemington, New Jersey

Written by: Kevin Abato

Spring time! Dust off that DeLorean and get it back on the road! The snow is melted, the trees and flowers are in bloom and it's time again to show off your stainless beauty to the world. The DMA once again planned our annual spring social event for 2006, and this year it was in Flemington, NJ. "Evil" Dan took the reigns this year to bring an eventful day to members who attended. We pulled out all the stops and gave all those who attended something to enjoy and help kick off the 2006 driving season.

With the 2006 DeLorean Car Show no more than several weeks away, Ken Koncelik was kind enough to come all the way out from Ohio to attend the DMA event and assist us in doing technical inspections on members cars. Ken arrived early, rolled up his sleeves, grabbed his clipboard and pen and wasted no time in jumping into the mix to lend his insight to our members.

Meanwhile Dave Teitlebaum lent his usual skills to the club to do door adjustments and other safety maintenance for all who inquired.

With great weather on the day of the event we watched as DeLorean after DeLorean arrived at CarTek on Rt 206 in Flemington. The shop's owner Charlie was kind enough to let use his facilities for the day, but had NO idea what he was getting into! As a stream of stainless steel cars began to roll in and park on his lot, he began to realize that this was going to be a day unlike any other his shop had ever had. 29 DeLoreans in all graced the front of Charlie's shop, and we even had to spill over onto a grass medium adjacent to the shop's parking lot (which Charlie was nice enough to mow for us the day before). Many passers by stopped in to admire this unusual site and ask questions.

One of the highlights of the event this year was Marc Levy's newly modified DeLoreans. Marc spent a fair amount on time dropping a Nissan Maxima 280hp engine and a Porsche 915 manual transmission into one of his DeLoreans. The Result: HANG ON FOR YOUR LIFE!

Marc had no problems offering up a ride to anyone who was brave enough to ride shotgun in this car, and let us tell you (from first hand experiences) this car is amazingly fast and one heck of a ride to experience.

What would a Spring Social be without tons of DeLorean stuff to raffle off? The DMA officers would like once again to thank P.J. Grady, DMC Houston, and all the other contributors who donated items for this year's raffle. Once again we had an amazing pile of goodies to make your mouth water, and pretty much everyone walked away a winner.

But we can't forget the most important item for the day... FOOD! We devoured almost three complete six-foot hoagie sandwiches. Hey... what can the DMA members say?... we like to eat. No food for you Ken! Get back to work! :)

After a long day filled with cars, raffles and food, we finally left the shop and went to dinner at a nice little restaurant that "Evil Dan" is a fan of. The food was sensational and the owner was very happy to have us dine in his establishment.

Sadly due to scheduling conflicts, not everyone who attended the social at the shop during the day could attend this wonderful dinner with us.

After dinner had ended we were read the official results of the 2006 DMA officer elections: Evil Dan - President, Marc Levy - Vice President, Aaron Crocco - Secretary, Lauren Riley - Treasurer, and Kevin Abato - Activities Director.

Even though these individuals are kind enough to donate their time and be club officers, the club still needs help from its members to make things happen. We encourage all members to volunteer and help us out in any way they can.

With all of the day's activities wrapped up, we all packed it in for the evening and went our separate ways. This was a successful way to kick off the 2006 season for the DMA, but with events like the DeLorean Car Show in Chicago, The Summer Fun Run, and this years fall tour, it promises to be a busy season for owners and enthusiasts of the DeLorean motor car.
